Hearing in the Public Interest

Placer Mining in Wetlands

The Board is holding a public interest hearing pursuant to section 19(1) of the Waters Act based on a genuine interest and concern respecting placer mining in wetlands. The virtual hearing will occur on October 27 to 29, 2020. The virtual format enables the hearing to proceed given COVID-19 restrictions in Yukon.

The purpose of the hearing is to gather information to further develop the Board’s Wetland Information Guidelines and to hear views about placer mining activities occurring in wetlands.

The Board requests that those wishing to speak at the hearing make their intentions known by September 11, 2020 at 4:00 pm via email at or by phone to the Water Boards’ office.

The Board asks that those making oral submissions provide a summary of their submission by September 30, 2020 at 4:00 pm to assist the Board in planning and preparing for the hearing.

The Board also welcomes written submissions via email at or by submitting comments using WATERLINE under Application File No. PM20-018 up to and until October 29, 2020 at 4:00 pm.
