Public engagement

 

The Board is an information-seeking regulatory authority that relies on information from applicants, licensees, interveners and claimants as participants in proceedings. Applications submitted to the Board are available publicly and anyone can participate in proceedings.

Anyone can comment on a water licence and approval application and proceedings - this a called an intervention. This information (evidence) may introduce new facts, expert insights, local and traditional knowledge, and alternative viewpoints – ensuring that the Board’s decisions reflect a broad range of perspectives and community interests.

After you submit your comment

We publish the comments on Waterline so the public can see them. This also gives the applicant a chance to respond before the Board considers their application. 

Public hearings offer an opportunity for anyone to make a statement to the Board about a licence or approval application and proceedings.

Once you have created a Waterline account, you may set preferences to receive email notifications of applications. You may set notifications for specific applications, as well as notifications based on the type of undertaking, the stages of the application process and various geographic areas. 

 

Note: Applicants will receive notifications regarding their submission automatically.

Claimants may request compensation for adverse affects related to water use or deposit of waste to water under the Waters Act and Yukon First Nations' Final Agreements.
