The Board
The Board is an independent, administrative tribunal that regulates the use of water and deposit of waste into water in the Yukon.
As an administrative tribunal, the Board follows the principles of natural justice and procedural fairness when making decisions. In this way, the Board operates similarly to a court of law. The Board makes objective, evidence-based licensing decisions based on the presentation of facts in the public register (Waterline) and from public hearings, when they are held.
The Board meets regularly to adjudicate licence applications and to conduct its business.
Board membership
The Yukon Water Board is a citizen board made up of four to nine members appointment by the Premier of Yukon. Appointments are based on nominations provided by:
- Government of Yukon (at least three members);
- Council of Yukon First Nations (one third of members); and
- Government of Canada.
Board members are not delegates of the parties who nominate them.
